Is Cricket Trailer For Me?

The Cricket Trailer is an athletic camping trailer that provides a comfortable and safe base-camp for all of your outdoor adventures. Cricket people want to be in nature as much as possible, not look at it through a window. They want mud on their shoes and stars overhead. Cricket buyers recognize that they are part of an ecosystem – not apart from it – and want to leave a light footprint.

Campers on the Gulf Coast love the option to sleep with air-conditioning during their extremely hot and humid summers. Campers in the mountain states can extend their camping season with a furnace.

For the serious backpacker or outdoorsman, the Cricket is a mobile base-camp that provides a secure place to store whitewater kayaks, snowboards, mountain bikes, fishing poles or hunting gear while you go on day excursions. Packing a great deal of utility into a small footprint, Cricket is also the must-have accessory for the next music festival or tailgate party on your calendar.

Whatever adventure is calling your name, the Cricket offers a comfortable place to sleep up off the ground, a safe place to stash gear, a sheltered kitchen in a rainstorm, a bathroom in the middle of the night, a cold drink at the end of a hot day, and a safe haven from the local insect population.

What Kind Of Car Will I Need To Tow Cricket?

Our hope is that you already own your tow vehicle. All 6–cylinder and many 4–cylinder vehicles have the tow capacity to accommodate the lightweight Cricket. Cricket weight depends on outfitting and loading: 1300lbs represents an unloaded Cricket with a kitchen and bed. The Cricket is easily within the tow ratings of even the 4 cylinder Subaru Outback, Forester and many others. Please check your vehicle's owner's manual to see if the Cricket is right for your car.

Why Call It The Cricket Trailer?

First, crickets are outdoors everywhere – deep in caves, by the sides of streams, on tops of mountains, in meadows and forests, in Australia, in your backyard. Their song is the soundtrack of the outdoors, the background of your good memories.

Second, our preliminary Cricket sketches featured a mechanism to raise and lower the roof that looked a lot like the jumping leg of a cricket. That leg is still there, albeit smaller, in the form of a gas spring that allows you to raise the roof in 20 seconds flat.

How Does Cricket Design Minimize Its Environmental Impact And Maximize Its Performence?

A lot of what is 'green' about the Cricket is what is not there. Cricket's small footprint increases systemic efficiency and maximizes performance. Being lightweight and aerodynamic translates to lower gas usage and easy, maneuverable towing. These same qualities also mean you probably already own your tow vehicle. When you bring Cricket on adventures, we want you to bring only what you need and help you leave behind what you don't. Allowing customers to choose only those features and options required furthers Cricket's overarching efficiency and contributes to even lighter tow-weight. In addition, Cricket is made largely of aluminum, wood and steel – all of which have useful afterlives.

What Does "Build Yours" Mean?

We want to sell you only what you need, no more. We designed the Cricket's outfitting to be modular to allow a lot of different uses by a lot of different people.

Start with the shell. Make a few outfitting decisions. Make it yours. Buy your Cricket "fully loaded" or use the gear you already own.

For instance:
If you like to cook outside and already own a camp-stove then don't get the cooktop
If you are a weekend camper who loves using your 10-year old Igloo cooler, then skip the 12V refrigerator
If your dog likes mud a lot, add the hand shower (unless you like muddy dogs).

What Is The Warranty?

Taxa lp has a continued interest in your satisfaction with your Cricket.

Your new Cricket, including the plumbing and electrical systems installed by the manufacturer, is warranted under normal use to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Your new Cricket's structure is warranted to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase.

Please ask to see a copy of the Cricket Warranty to understand key coverage details and exclusions.

Can I Take My Cricket Off-Road?

How far off road do you have in mind?

Cricket is built to be dirt-road tough, but not (yet) off-road tough. However, people take their cars to crazy places - Cricket's ground clearance is 10.5 inches, likely better than your car, and we would be happy to supply attack and departure angles.

We are planning to add a sport package for you off-road enthusiasts, so stay tuned. In the meanwhile, send us your ideas!

Can My Whole Family Sleep In The Cricket?

Well, that would depend how big your family is. The Cricket's ideal for two adults, whether you are just friends or a couple. The Cricket "V-Berth" model provides enough room for a small child to sleep comfortably in a family bed, while the folding couch model is best for many couples. A suspended kids attic is available for larger children (works great for kids up to 100 lbs.). Each Cricket can be outfitted with up to two kids berths in the attic space.

We reckon bigger kids won't even want to be sleeping with their parents. Give them their own tent next door.

Can Cricket Hold A Motorcycle, Dirt-Bike, Or Atv?

No.

We had a number of goals for the Cricket when we set out to build it. One of these was to achieve a good aerodynamic stance and another was to scale the trailer so that it could easily fit in a garage. Dirt–bikes are really tall, motorcycles are really wide. Accommodating these would put the Cricket out of our goal size. Maybe the next TAXA trailer?

Please get in touch with us and tell us what you would like to see. We want to know!

What About Bears?

Bears are great and beautiful but not welcome in side a Cricket.

Please use common sense. If you are in bear territory, be prepared for bears. If a bear wants in, no trailer or vehicle is guaranteed to keep them out.

That said, the Cricket's hard shell top can be quickly and easily pulled down from the inside for a completely hard-shelled exterior. You can cook and eat with the top up and then drip the top to sleep.

Did Garrett Ever Want To Become An Astronaut?

Yes, but NASA is (still) only looking for pilots, scientists, engineers and doctors. Believe us; he's asked. Architects are not on their list.

So, for now, Garrett is working to provide the ideal vessel for exploring planet Earth under the clouds and above
